Walsh, Carli & Boothroyd Brilliant in Mackay 💙
Queensland may have taken Game 1 last night, but it was the NSW ladies who dominant in Mackay over the hurdles, in the pit & over two laps in an array of Championship-record performances yesterday.
Ivy Boothroyd (Sutherland District Athletics Club, Jacinta Doyle) who has won every state and national final she’s lined up in since 2019 – won her maiden international competition in a U18 Women’s 800m Oceania Championship Record of 2:09.83, keeping her phenomenal junior record in tact for yet another season.
It was so pleasing to see Tokyo Olympian Sarah Carli (Kembla Joggers, Melissa Logan) go sub-56 for the third time in her career and moving towards some international-class form, as she secured the Championship Record in front of her teammate and ever-improving Brodee Mate (Kembla Joggers, Melissa Logan) in 58.82. Genevieve Cowie (UNSW, Lindsay Watson) made the Women’s 400m podium a NSW podium sweep with 60.47 for bronze.
Sarah Walsh (Sutherland District Athletics Club, Matt Beckenham) also produced a brilliant jump of 5.38m, one of the longest of her career, to secure gold in front of NSW’s Summer Giddings (Hills District Athletics Club, Matthew Rawlings) in the Women’s Para-Ambulant Long Jump.
