Life Member Sadly Passes

It was announced last weekend that a beautiful soul, one of us, had passed away after he’d been fighting illness for some time.

His name – Peter Ikin.

And those who knew him, both admired and loved him because he was one of the true ambassadors of what makes us all bond together. He was part of the ‘runner’s tribe’ a man who simply enjoyed running for running’s sake. And out in the glorious National Park is where he felt most at ease.

He loved to watch the sport too and I remember often talking to him about racing while lacing up the spikes each week at Interclub back in the 80s and 90s.

Peter was a long-time member of Sutherland, a stalwart of the club, and as a well-earned accolade, he was made a Life Member several years ago.

So, it is with a mixture of joy and sadness we bid him farewell. Joy because he loved the club and the sport and all who knew him felt that love, sadness, well, for obvious reasons.

A funeral will be held for him at Audley Dance Hall on 30 March at 1pm.

It is encouraged that all who knew him, should attend. The club will be buying flowers.

RIP old mate – from all your ’tribe mates’.

– Ric Chapman

President SDAC
